Why I support Rebecca Black

Something has been annoying me lately and I wanted to write a blog about it to finally get this off my chest.

Since the explosion of social networking, there has been a growing element in what I describe as “Cyber-mocking”, this is where someone mocks an individual with what can only be described as harmful content via social media.

Now in the case of many, it’s aimed at celebrities who have done something that has invoked a mass reaction. Think of Kanye West’s interruption of Taylor Swift’s award or the on-going saga that is Charlie Sheen’s public meltdown. Time and time again you will see people making videos either with a parody of the even themselves or somehow mocking these people in a not so harmful manner. However there are times when the line is crossed and it is this very instance that really makes me angry.

The latest is of a thirteen year old singer called Rebecca Black. For those who have not heard Rebecca Black has released a single called “Friday”. Before you continue reading this take a listen.

Now I will be honest it’s not the greatest song in the world, in fact I would go as far to say I dislike it immensely. But that is where my critical perception of the song ends. Now type into YouTube “Rebecca Black Friday” and you will see an endless reply of people mimicking the song, or posting up really hurtful personal comments about the singer in an uncalled for and scathing manner.

The singer has now stated that she feels she is being cyber-bullied by all and is considering stopping singing. But to all the people out there craving their own attention mocking someone’s original work here is a message for you from a songwriter.

“To write and sing a song takes a lot of work, to mock someone’s original work is a sign of creative weakness. It’s far easier to imitate than it is to originate” in other words…

Grow up and try something original.

Exactly what i was looking for in the web. The fact that her song is terrible, does not mean she is a bad singer. People seem to have confused the meaning of both words. After reading that she cried at all the negative comments, it makes me sad to see a human of our blood being bullied through the internet for such a stupid reason. It in fact, sickens me. From now on, i will forever support her until the day i die. Someone needs to start a mob. A group, anything. To show Rebecca Black, that she does indeed have fans. And that just because of this bull crap, it doesn’t mean she should end her singing career before it even starts.

I know. The thing that I find hardest the most is the pure amount of parodies that people were making. Can’t they come up with something more original?

People become really mean these days, where is the sense of humanity??is it just because she is 13 (too young to make music video??) or is it because she talked abt justin bieber??.I feel that she is just a lively girl, who talks out straight abt what she like. What wrong with u people !For me, I appreciate her for her courage that she dared to stand up and still smile eventhough she is really hurt:)
REBECCA ,I assure u that one day ur dream will be fulfilled n all the haters will be regretful abt their actions.
