Two Hearts Unpaired (New Poem)

Memories fill my mind
Of a love that we once shared
A time when we thought we knew it all
When you were the only one who cared

Our young hearts had a future
Life for me and you
Looking back now with a smile
A world just for us two

We grew old with time
Had our heartbreaks here and there
Fell back into each other’s arms
Reunited with no care

Life began to ask us questions
Some answers we could not give
We had to let each other go
In order for us to live

Do you think of what could have been?
Or should that matter now?
After all, we’ve gone our separate ways
For this, we can’t allow

Or maybe it’s the past in me
As these feelings, they increase
For they dance around inside my mind
I’m unable to release

Memories fill my mind
Of a love that we once shared
Watching as time stood still for me
While our lives became unpaired
