This Butterfly Is Free

Gazing into the mirror

A symmetry of reflection

Eyes once so familiar

A portrait of rejection

External life so perfect

Travels so a plenty

The camera soon switches off

Alone and now so empty

Likes are not important

All dressed up in time

The costume masquerades my pain

My internal crime

Every bird that’s once caged

Deserves the chance to fly

Breaking of the shackles

Before we crash and die

This rat escaped this race

For I only run for me

Nobody now to answer to

This butterfly is free

For now, there are no answers

To my internal questions

So two fingers up to the big wild world

I’m done with your rejections
