The Gambits Check Mate of Revenge

gambit

In shadows cast by love,

There lied a deceitful flame,

A partner walked away for good

for another’s love and name

My plan took began just after

Concealed in subtle art.

A darkened plan hatched with anger

To make it fall apart

They thought they were victorious,

Triumphant in their stride,

Yet I played them for the fool they were

A confidence belied.

With moves hidden with spite,

Their weakness was revealed

A chessboard set for one last time

My Check Mate is soon sealed

With every step they took,

They felt so strong and bold,

Secrets whispered in the wind,

A story left untold.

They never saw the snare,

their pride it was deceived,

Unaware, my trap was already set

A plan that is now revealed

The years rolled by,

Yet the truth remained unseen,

A masquerade of their own fate,

Whilst I danced on so serene,

Oh, sweet revenge. I raise a glass.

As they sipped on bitter wine,

Realising that the roles they played,

My arrow now entwined

They thought they held the crown,

but they were so misled

They thought I lined no empty

But I was plotting in my bed

So, let them bask in pride’s illusive glare,

Whilst I play the puppeteer.

They never realised that in all this time

I played you year by year
