Happiness finding the perfect friend

Sometimes in life you know that someone who you meet will become more than just an acquaintance. You get a sense of looking into the future and knowing that this person will be around forever.

It is difficult to say what forces are at work to make this notion happen, but deep down you know it is true, regardless of how much thought you put into trying to understand the reasons why.

Could it be that there is some mutual interest? I think not. My understanding is that somehow it is just meant to happen. Looking at the sheer number of people on this planet it’s a seven billion to one chance that you will find that friend who you know will turn into your best friend. Not the kind of friend that you are just there for, but the kind that you would do anything for regardless of where you were. They become a part of you just as you are yourself. It would be difficult to imagine life without them.

Initially when you encounter this person the conversation is always going to cagey. You know there is more than just a regular friendship, but you daren’t take the risk of pushing the pace too fast. This could be too much too soon. Yet truly, if that person knows how you think then it’s an immediate success when this happens. Emotions that take years to express are shared in days. Secrets that not even lifelong friends know, can be told in confidence, and above all everlasting confidence is born.

That is such a beautiful feeling.

People will enter our lives at varying times and will remain for as long as life wants them to. But that one particular person that comes in and stays in the bottom of your heart will become the friend for eternity.

You are loyal to each other; you will trust them as much as they trust you. Every problem they feel will be given as much thought and as thought as if it were your own. Listening to even their trivial predicaments will be something you devote your time too devoutly. Even sticking up for them when all others are against them will go beyond the realms of everyday friendship.

Yet the true moment you know you have that unique friend is where you can be yourself. Totally free of any constraints of fake, the ability to laugh, cry, be angry or anxious in front of them. That for me is the freedom of the inner soul, being vulnerable in front of someone.

The true meaning of friendship. Life is a journey. Why walk it alone?
