Basketball, bewilderment and friendships

Odd how a day can turn out.

I get an email at 9am saying “I found your blog about moving to Sweden”. Several emails later it turns out we are in the same city. Lisa is a lovely young lady, bright and articulate with a passion for life. We met earlier this evening and headed to a basketball game to watch the Norrköping Dolphins play Örebro.

Though, I have been living here a while I have never actually seen a basketball game, and I don’t know why as I honestly am a massive fan! Must admit it’s not the easiest place to get to in the world but was worth it!

In a thrilling game,  the Dolphins won with the very last throw to come from behind to win 83-82. The game was an exciting one, but I think what was more significant was meeting a lovely friend. We drove to a late night store and spent a long time talking about cultural differences, and how, even though the world is such a big place, it’s funny how small it can also be too.

Lisa is a lovely lady and even though she is just here for eight months I feel that it will be one of those friendships that you will back on in years to come with fond memories.

I even saw Shamira Yakob, local football genius! One thing is assured is that even as the temperature plummets to -21 life in Sweden is all about getting out of your apartment and doing something random!

A great night!
