A letter to the Olympic Board regarding the Australian female football team

Dear

I am writing to make a formal complaint regarding the inclusion of the North Korean women’s football team for the forthcoming Games of the XXX Olympiad in London.

My complaint is based on the evidence that several of the North Korean players that participated during the qualification stage of the games were under the influence of performance enhancing substances.

Five of the group that participated during the 2011 World Cup have since been banned for up to a period of eighteen months, and the team doctor banned for a period of six years.

Obviously there are those players within the North Korea team that are not involved in the instances mentioned above. Whilst it would be impolite to impose a ban on the entire team for those who are innocent, it is clear that the team did benefit overall via illicit substance use and this has had an impact on the third nation within the qualifying group.

The football Federation Australia and the Australian Olympic Committee last month wrote to FIFA, the International Olympic Committee and the World Anti-Doping Authority, claiming North Korea should be banned from the forthcoming Summer Olympiad.

Whilst I do not want to penalize the entire North Korean side, I do believe it’s only due fair that the Australian team is represented in the Olympic Games this summer. This is based on the fact that, during the qualifying stages of the Olympic tournament, they participated against several North Korean players who were using illegally banned substances.

I believe the logical conclusion would be to have both North Korea, with those players innocent of any wrong doing, and the Australian team included in the Olympic Games this summer.

I draw your attention to WADA (World Anti Doping Agency) article 11.2, which states, “if more than two members of a team commit an anti-doping violation during an event, it is the organiser of that event who will decide and impose an appropriate sanction.”

Therefore on the basis of the above I sincerely suggest that the Australian female football team is rightly installed as a participant in this summers Olympics.

Finally, I am writing this, as a formal compliant so will require a satisfactory reply.

Yours sincerely
