#Welivefootball poem

A long embedded memory
Of goalpost in the heather
Shinpads tight as mothers hugs
The familiar smell of leather

Jumpers down for goalposts
The winner first to ten
No offsides or VAR
Life seemed easier way back then

Before there were live matches
Just highlights after seven
A game that captured all our hearts
The sport was sent from heaven

Picked a club and wore the shirt
Like it is a second skin
Through the highs and lows that follow
A love was born within

The sun greets our new day
Our world stands proud and tall
Connected through a love of life
That we call football

Seasons come and go in life
Rain, Sleet, wind and sun
We stand united with our love for you
Football’s number one

An escape from our daily lives
Ninety minutes where hearts run free
A roller coaster of emotions
For all eternity

Neighbours wearing different colours
A kaleidoscope of fashion
Shirts adorned for every game
A spectrum of pure passion

One game brought us together
In the times of joy and pain
Forever rising like a phoenix
We’ll soon be soaring again

So wear your shirt with pride my friends
Sing until you can no more
Football is a way of life for us
Together forevermore
