The sun shines through the window
My shadow on the floor,
Your bowl stands in the corner
I forget you’re here no more
The stairs you used to bound down
Barking as you went
The house it feels so empty
Where once we did frequent
I saw you growing weaker
Your energy was low
The eyes they seemed so heavy
They even lost their glow
You warmed my lap in winter
When the nights were so cold,
Ears listening attently
To the stories that I told,
Those eternal days in summer
When you wallowed in the mud,
Shaking water from your back
Landing with a thud,
The years they flew by quickly,
If only we had more time
The human years last so long
That is nature’s crime
I knew the time was closer
Held you till the end
My hand upon your dying heart
It’s goodbye to my friend
Your tail it won’t wag no more
Yet now you’re free from pain
Run high now in the clouds now
Until we meet again
