I often look at the calendar and think “Where has the year gone?”. Whilst there is an absence of snow here in Sweden, it is hard to believe that 2014 is almost over. Only seems like yesterday that I was planning the year ahead and all that it would hold in store for me.
I don’t think that time goes quicker as we age, let’s be honest a day is a day regardless of what we do with it. But certainly when you immerse yourself in the fast-paced life of a big city once more time certainly seems to fly by. I was back in London a few weeks ago and it’s like I had never left. Though buildings may rise and fall the sheer pace of life there seems to just get faster, or maybe I am just slowing down with age.
I have only been here in Stockholm a few weeks, but things are certainly slower here. The pace of life, the traffic everything seems more relaxed and less stressful. But I will be honest I miss London. The ‘hustle and bustle’ the coffee cup army brigade each morning. But no matter where we live everything has it’s qualities.
The past few months have been a whirlwind of changes in life, a new city, new people. It is like starting all over again. I remember after three or four years of living in London I would look at all the people sat around with backpacks reading TNT magazine planning their new lives in London. I also recall when I lived with a lot of Australians that they seemed to plan every single second of their lives. Many were on two year working visas and being so far away from home they wanted to make the most of it. I never had that issue, but I think now I am in a similar position, just in a new city some ten years on. Of course, I am by no means a stranger to Sweden after living in Norrköping but living in a new city takes time.
How long I am here for only time will tell. I never plan more than six months ahead in life. I never have and I never will. If I do, I will make promises and plans that I may not be able to keep. Six months at a time is the right pace of life that I have always lived by.
Where time is going, who knows. The years seem to be getting quicker each and every time.
2015 will soon be upon us, who knows what that year will hold!
