Things that bite in the night

Things that bite in the night

Back from London!

Great trip, was nice to see my family again after one the longest periods of time since my move.

It is strange as I often feel that I am always attached to London but at the same time it now feels like I am purely a tourist. Whatever I feel this city will always be my home.

The start of my trip was not the best. In the madness of getting ready for the conference, I had completely forgotten about the change in flights from Skavsta, so our company managed to book a flight from Arlanda on a Saturday morning.

Trouble being that I was facing the dilemma of catching the last train the night before and having a closed airport or book a late hotel. I got the confirmation of a hotel near the airport.

Got there late, around 9.45. Was so tired that I opened the door and went straight to sleep. Next morning awoke around 5, took a shower and then noticed a half eaten burger in the bathroom.

The worst was yet to come.

In the bin were a used condom and worst of all one used a condom on the bed. I had not seen this, but it was clearly obvious that the room was not cleaned but was still being offered.

Three days into my trip I developed a line of small bites on my right thigh and the side of my head. Quick trip to the GP confirmed they were bed bugs.

It’s been five days now and the Monday after work I sent an email via the booking website but as yet I have had no reply. I am sure that The Clarion is a nice hotel, but any hotel must take cleanliness as a priority. Spoke to someone called “Therese” who said they only dealt with orders not complaints.

I have stayed in worse, stayed in better but won’t be staying here again! No doubt they guy who had the room before I had a much better night!.

Update 13 August – Still no reply from the hotel. Avoid!
