Stressing out over a delayed flight – What’s the point?

I’m currently writing this on the way back to Stockholm and could not pass up the opportunity to talk about politeness. Especially when flying.

The flight I’m on is currently three hours late due primarily to a “technical fault”, which made them, change planes. This is understandable, these things happen.

As I boarded the plane I put my bag in the overhead storage and was soon followed on by two rather drunken men in suits. They pushed their way past several people who had been ahead of them in the queue and immediately put their bags in the overhead storage of the emergency exits. These seats were closed from people from sitting.

No doubt they decided that they were to take their frustrations out on the young cabin crew member who, if I could be honest, barely looked fresh out of nappies. The pilot had to diffuse the situation, and, in the end, common sense prevailed and the two men sat down elsewhere.

Now that should have been then part of the issue, but alas, the cabin crew member decided to retaliate. When offering the inflight magazine he didn’t so much hand it to the two men, but instead threw it.

Currently the men are stating that complaints will develop and that they would be seeking an apology. However, I believe that they will fall asleep sooner rather than later following the double whiskies that they have just consumed.

Neither group were right, but it doesn’t help other people around you when you have two people (or in this case three) acting in this manner.

Transport is never perfect, trains break down, cars malfunction and yes even air transport suffers from issues from time to time. It is only on these occasions where there is little a customer can do as they are so dependent on the mode of transport.

I wish I could have just said “Guys, come on calm down” but maybe it’s the Britishness in me that makes me just bite my tongue and just watch on passively.

In a perfect world, peace and wisdom would prevail, but it seems that humanity will always disagree with their own perceptions of events.
