At this time of year we are often caught up in the busy times of Christmas shopping, the seasonal time where we think about what we are going to buy the people in our lives. Yet underneath all the hustle and bustle it is often the time of year when it is those that are less fortunate than ourselves are often forgotten.
We are fortunate enough to have a life that allows us to think about what we are going to be giving this Christmas,
and in some cases receiving, but our minds must not wander from those people whose lives this year may have been affected by a natural, political or religious event that could have changed their lives for the worse.
I guess that it was the Tsunami back in 2004 just after Christmas that made us all feel how fortunate we were that year, but since then the world has been ravaged by hurricanes, earthquakes, wars and other natural occurrences that just makes me think how angry the world appears to be these days with humanity.
Each year there are the usual televised charitable events, the appeals on behalf of charitable organisations but do they ever really hit home? I’ve been fortunate enough to see and visit places hit by such events that really did change my life forever. It was a case of seeing the devastation that floods and earthquakes left behind that truly struck deep within my heart.
Of course there are times when we are unable to contribute, there are times when we hear that fund raising money never actually gets to those whom it is intended for.
But I don’t think that it gives us any real excuse not to donate something at this time of year, even a small amount out of our Christmas spending money can go a long way to improving the lives of those who need it the most.
Were lucky and fortunate to be who we are and where we are in life and there really are billions far worse of than we are. In the times where we rush around like headless chickens take some time out to help some charity who need our help.
This day and age we live in really is a Mad World…
