Since I have moved to Sweden, I have missed watching Chelsea play football a great deal. I tried to find a men’s team here that I could follow, but I just did not feel any love with any team that I saw. Chelsea was always on my mind too much.
I have always been a supporter of women’s football and found that the city next to mine, Linköping, had one of the top teams in Swedish football.
Over the past two years, I have become a season ticket holder. Seen every home and away game (except two) the past two years and have really gotten behind this team in Rain, Snow, sunshine and wind.
Unlike men’s football, women’s players don’t stay at clubs for years. Most are part time and careers can be broken and made in an instant. Two players left Linköping this season. One is an international goalkeeper for Sweden; the other is a great midfielder whom last year scored an epic free kick in the Australian W-League grand final. Both have been outstanding players for Linköping for almost 7 years.
Another Louise Fors left Linköping in 2012 and has since gone on to play in the Australian W-League, and this season was part of the Liverpool team that won the English league.
Brilliant players, excellent talent. Cannot wait to see whom they play for in 2014! Good luck ladies!
