AI vs Creative Writing – Which do you prefer?

Anyone that knows me will tell you I love technology innovations. The past four years, the abundance in Artificial Intelligence platforms has been overwhelming. These days, within seconds, you can write, draw or create almost anything in an instant.

Being a writer, I often suffer from writer’s block and I will often seek inspiration in many forms. Reading old poetry of mine, listening to some song lyrics, going to see a film or even going for a walk will often inspire creativity.

Writing AI tools is good and bad for writers like myself. The art of creative writing does not come easy, and AI tools are stopping a lot of young creative writers from following their dreams and passion. Yet, it brings the opportunity to those who cannot write to express their own inner levels of creation.

So I did a little test. An AI Christmas poem that took 15 seconds to write via machine learning vs a poem that I wrote on the morning of this Christmas Eve. Which do you think is which?

Poem 1

Christmas is a time for cheer

With loved ones near, there’s nothing to fear

The tree is trimmed, the lights all aglow

As we get ready for the mistletoe

The stockings are hung, the presents wrapped tight

We’re filled with delight on this special night

The tree stands tall, with ornaments galore

As we get ready to open up the door

To carolers singing, their voices so sweet

As we dance and we sing, our feet can’t be beat

The smell of gingerbread fills the air

As we sit by the fire, without a care

This time of year is magic, it’s true

A time to be grateful, a time for each of us to renew

The love and the joy, the peace and the cheer

Merry Christmas to all, let’s hold it dear

Poem 2

Stockings hang by the crackling fire

Atop of the tree, the star stands higher

Crackers for tomorrow are ready to pull

With the roasted turkey with bellies all full

Children asleep dreaming of tomorrow

A day for forgiving no sad thoughts or sorrow

Time for friends and family to share

Expressions of love and moments of care

People have left us, yet there is no need to cry

A Christmas remembrance from all years gone by

As we grow older, time goes so fast

Cherish these moments, they were meant to last

As the bells ring out, a message of love

For those who are with us, and those high above

Tonight is the night with a future so bright

Let the light guide you, this snowy Christmas night
