The day where we all met,
‘Twas forty years ago,
Four strangers from distant lands
We connected from “hello.”
The following years were routine,
From the moment we landed on the plane,
The first port of call was to see you both,
Through the sunshine and the rain.
Years they flew by quickly,
Children came into our lives,
Even they soon had their own,
Becoming husbands and wives.
Retirement grew nearer,
Yet each year we made the trip;
We just walked a little slower,
And had pain from toe to hip.
Our health began to decline,
The trips to see you they took longer,
Yet our love for you was ever true,
In fact, it could not be stronger.
So this trip, we knew, is over,
This is the time to say goodbye;
You don’t remember who we are,
Yet the glint stayed in your eye.
So as we have one last drink for the road,
These forty years grew love,
For friendships are unbreakable,
Ours was sent from up above.
