Generations (Poem)

Generations (Poem)

I look outside the window,
A reflection that I see,
Whispers of a past voice,
My forlorn memory.

I grew from the child of hope
To a twenty-something fool.
Now I’m the older generation,
A piece of a puzzle with no tool.

Where did the time go?
From innocence to trust,
Foundations of a family
Now left to rust.

Yesterday, I was the teenager,
Echoes of “You will make us proud.”
Now the voices remain silent
As you sit there on your cloud.

We enter the emblems of promise,
The last period of life.
Our children grow even older;
It cuts deep, like a knife.

Yet here we still linger,
The child of our youth,
Where we uphold the promises
That define our life in truth.
