Ocean ride (New poem)

ocean

Crimson sky greets weary eyes
Sun fairies dance atop lost world
As fast as we depart
So we yearn for pure shores
Warmth breaks through heavy grey shield
Swept along my powerful storm
Unstoppable in destination’s quest
Bobbing atop the fathoms
Eternal glimpse of blue, unknown world below
The Gulls direct with chorus, a shrill of despair
Sun replaced by sister moon
Illuminating uncertainty
We feel the might of nature
Helpless in it’s grasp
Stars adorn the blanket sky
It can be read some do say!
Yet I choose to sleep beneath the light
Using them to form shapes as I slowly drift
Carried away by gentle sounds
Buoyantly I sleep
Under sunset so serene
Symmetry of blue, shattered by rising shape
Eager eyes feast on approaching land
Splashes of green and dots of bronze
We bound effortlessly into its grasp
Attraction between the unknown and fear
Breathe excitement onto weary legs
Land ahoy!

Numbered days etched onto post
Akin to the lines drawn on my face
Lead-footed weary explorers
Tread unfamiliar paths like burning coals
Silence amplifies the noise
Quiet over there!
Eyes peeled for danger, we are in no mans land

Fools walk where the brave shall wait
Minutes seem like hours under gazing watchful sun
Parched lips seeking golden dew
Immortality has left our veins
Thickened ground beneath heavy foot
Grasping to pull us down
We gather now as one
Whispers form to vocal roar
Imagined fear, leaves our pores
Hushed silence falls across our lips
Realisation that the land is ours
The unknown now the familiar
We rest here, till our feet itch once more
A voyager’s life for me
